Product description

The duos concertant for horn and bassoon op.27 are composed by the French F. Clapisson. The name is completely unknown and is frequently mistaken for his son Louis Clapisson (1808 -- 1866). The son was in Paris around 1830 pupil of Reicha. He played in the opera o Paris as a 2nd violin and composed numerous successful works. 1847 he became a knight of the legion of honour and on August 26th, 1854 he was chosen into the Académie the Beaux-Arts. From 1861 onwards Louis Clapisson taught harmony at the Conservatoire in Paris. Louis was born 1808 in Naples. His father F. Clapisson played in the orchestra of the king of Naples, Joachim Murat. 1815 (with the fall of the king) F. Clapisson moved to Bordeaux. His printed compositions name him as "1er Cor du grand Theatre de Bordeuax". His complete first name is mentioned at none of his works. Only copies in Naples note "di Maestro F. Clapisson" (of compositions for 3 horns). The composition on hand has to be put in order therefore after 1815 and is dedicated to a Monsieur P. Filliatre Fils with the remark that this Clapisson had been a pupil.
