Allesandro Scarlatti (1660-1725) was an Italian composer of the Baroque period who achieved early reknown as a composer of opera. His Three Sonatas for two cellos, made available here in transcription for two bass clarinets, were likely composed in Naples around 1700.
In this transcription for bass clarinet duet, both the key and range of the original works are maintained. Neither player is presented with any great challenges of technique or range, and an extended range instrument is NOT required for either player. Each of the three short sonatas features 3-4 movements of contrasting tempo and character, and would make excellent ensemble contest selections for young bass clarinetists.
