Tournemire studied organ and improvisation with César Franck and Charles-Marie Widor. During his lifetime he was particularly known as an outstanding improviser. In 1930/31 he recorded five organ improvisations for the Polydor record company, but he repeatedly refused to reconstruct them for publication. This edition presents a completely new transcription that is as faithful as possible to Tournemire's original.

Tournemire studierte Orgel und Improvisation bei César Franck und Charles-Marie Widor. Zu Lebzeiten galt er insbesondere als grandioser Orgelimprovisator. 1930/31 nahm er fünf Improvisationen für die Schallplattenfirma Polydor auf, weigerte sich jedoch stets, diese für eine Veröffentlichung zu rekonstruieren. Die vorliegenden Transkriptionen folgen so treu wie möglich den Schallplattenaufnahmen und machen die Werke somit erstmals der musikalischen Praxis zugänglich.
