Soler produces a mixture of Baroque and Rococo passages with imaginative ornamentation and the sonorities in this set of two-movement concertos which have the composer's characteristic Iberian flavor combines with an employment of ostinato and local dance rhythms like the fandango and bolero. Antonio Soler (1729-83) was educated in the Benedictine Monastery of Montserrat near Barcelona and became a monk. This however did not prevent his working at the Spanish Court in Madrid with Scarlatti and teaching various members of the royal family.
