The cello sonatas by James Hook first appeared in print in 1783; as far as we know, they have not been available in a modern edition until now. These sonatas serve as excellent preparation for the performance of Boccherini's pieces and concertos in the galant style. The easy accompaniment was originally intended by the composer to be played on a second cello; the editor has provided a piano accompaniment as an alternative, enabling the sonatas to be performed as concert pieces.
