De Sonates voor twee fluiten, op. 2 van Telemann horen met Quantz' Duetten, op. 2 en W.F. Bachs Duetten tot het beste dat de achttiende-eeuwse duo-literatuur voortbracht. Telemanns Sonates voor twee fluiten, op. 2 waren in de achttiende eeuw zo populair dat er in Amsterdam, Londen en Parijs roofdrukken van verschenen. Quantz noemde Telemann een 'gründlicher Meister' in het schrijven van duetten. De mengeling van de Italiaanse en Franse stijl en het feit dat beide partijen interessant geschreven zijn waren redenen waarom deze stukken zo in de smaak vielen.
Iedere amateur-fluitist kent deze duo’s van Telemann. Ze zijn vanaf hun eerste verschijnen in de achttiende eeuw tot op de dag van vandaag geliefd gebleven. Ze zijn technisch niet heel moeilijk en muzikaal heel aantrekkelijk.

Telemann's Sonatas for two flutes, op. 2 were so popular in the eighteenth century that pirated editions appeared in Amsterdam, London and Paris. Quantz called Telemann 'ein gründlicher Meister' ('a thorough master') in the composition of duets. The mix of Italian and French styles and the fact that the two parts are equally interesting account for the popularity of these pieces.
Every amateur flute player knows these duo’s by Telemann. They became popular after their first publication in the eighteenth century and haven’t lost their appeal ever since. Technically not too difficult and musically very attractive.
