Dit album "SPEELMUZIEK" bevat melodieën uit Ierland en Wales die van oudsher op de Ierse harp,de clarsach, gespeeld worden. Sommige van deze melodieën zijn beroemd, zoals bijvoorbeeld "David on the white rock", dat altijd werd gespeeld bij de begrafenis van een Bard. Een Bard was een componist, zanger en harpspeler tegelijk. Zes stukjes van bekende componisten uit de tijd van Renaissance en Barok zijn niet speciaal voor harp geschreven. De componisten in die tijd schreven meestal niet voor een bepaald instrument. Ze zijn echter bijzonder geschikt om op harp gespeeld te worden. De "Variations on a Welsh Carol " is voor iets verder gevorderden en bedoeld als voordrachtstukje voor muziekschoolleerlingen. Behalve op Ierse harp kan deze verzameling stukjes ook op de grote harp gespeeld worden, evenals op piano en orgel.
This album "Music for Pleasure" contains songs from Ireland and Wales. It comprises traditional harp music, gathered from old collections and re-arranged for the Irish harp. Some of these songs are famous. "David on the white rock" was usually played at the funeral of a bard. Six pieces of well-known composers from the times of Renaissance and Baroque were not originally written for the harp. In those days composers often did not write music with one special instrument in mind. However, this music is very suitable for the harp. "Variations on a Welsh Carol" is meant for more advanced pupils. Although arranged especially for the Irish harp all these pieces can also be performed on a big harp and eventually on piano or organ.
