Franz Danzi's Concert Pieces Nos. 2 and 3 for clarinet and orchestra (or piano) have been gracing the MUSICA RARA catalogue for some time now, and their popularity often spawned the question: "Isn't there a great, virtuoso Concert Piece No. 1 as well?" John P. Newhill's new edition supplies a positive answer to this question and, at the same time, completes this little group of works. Let us note, however, that the title of the piece is not historically legitimated. Danzi called his concert pieces "potpourris" and had all three works published under this genre title, which was very "in" at that time.
