Manuel de Falla was born in 1876 in Cádiz and died in 1946 in Alta Gracia.
As a composer he had a great success with his opera „La vida breve“ in 1905 where he created his style with elements of spanish folk-music an so won the first prize at the competion of the „Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando“. At the outbreak of World War One de Falla returned to Madrid, where in 1915 his „Gitaneria“ El amor brujo (Spell of love) had its first performance. Out of this ballet music the Dance of Fire was taken as a solitary set not at least performed by Paco de Lucia, the famous flamenco guitarist.
This adaption for cello-quartet was first performed by the ensemble Quartetto cellistico Bamberg in September 2016 at the Oberau castle.
