Deze bundel eenvoudige pianostukken in oplopende moeilijkheidsgraad schreef ik samen met jazzpianist Bert van den Brink in de tijd dat ik nog pianoles gaf aan een muziekschool. Aanleiding was mijn onvrede met de bestaande beginboeken die ook nog eens vooral gericht waren op kinderen en niet op volwassen beginnelingen. Gestreefd werd naar een grote veelzijdigheid. Er komt van alles aanbod: maatwisselingen, improvisaties, clustertechnieken, spatiële notaties, stukken in de stijl van klassieken en modernen. Leerlingen leren het hele toetsenbord te bestrijken. Het denken vanuit de centrale C is vermeden. We pretenderen geen beginmethode te hebben geschreven maar meer een bundel die dient als aanvulling naast een bestaande methode. Alle voor dit boek geselecteerde stukken zijn destijds uitgebreid op leerlingen uitgeprobeerd. Luister hier de stukjes.
I wrote this collection of simple piano pieces in ascending level of difficulty together with jazz pianist Bert van den Brink while I was still giving lessons at a Music School. I was dissatisfied with existing beginner's books, which were focused on children rather than adult beginners. We tried for great versatility. Everything gets a chance: changes of meter, improvisations, cluster techniques, spatial notation, pieces in classical and modern style. Pupils learn to cover the whole keyboard. Thinking from middle C is avoided. We don't pretend to have written a beginner's method but more a collection that serves as a supplement to existing methods.
