The original manuscript bears the name "Carl Baermann", but it is practically certain that the composer was not referring to the famous clarinetist to whom, along with his father Heinrich, Mendelssohn dedicated the two Konzertstücke Opp. 113 and 114. The orchestration was prepared by the Berlin bassoonist (!) Carl Baermann Sr., a brother of Heinrich Baermann. The history of this work, along with the fact that it was never before published, proves once again how little we know and appreciate so many of Mendelssohn's works. ed. by Trio di Clarone (Sabine Meyer, Wolfgang Meyer, Reiner Wehle)
