In this collection you'll find four traditional klezmer pieces Of variable difficulty. The arrangements proposed to you have been done by the group YANKELE, and could be interpreted by 'movable' ensembles such as piano, with a three violins, clarinet quartet, flutes, quintet made up of a guitar; accordion, stringbass, etc.
Beside the detailed scores on which the special effects on klezmer music are indicated, we have made a CD in order for you to do the best in your work: deepening of Klezmer style, developing hearing faculties, preparation for ensemble playing. You'll find for each of the four pieces two versions: one for monophonic instruments (clarinet, flute, saxophone), the other a 'concert' version for monophonic and polyphonic instruments (accordion, guitar).
For 'Shalom Alechem' and 'Neima chassidit', there is first a concert interpretation with clarinet (Part 1), then, an edited version with monophonic instruments, interpreted without clarinet (music minus one style), permitting you to play the theme with accompaniment. For 'The 7:40 Morning Train', we propose seven different recordings, to develop progressively your work. In the first one with clarinet (#5), the fast part is played; the quarter note at 92 a minute, permitting you to hear the effects more slowly and then to reproduce these effects. In #6, it's up to you to play! Tracks 7, 8 and 9, have only fast passages, the quarter note at 120 a minute. In the concert version (10 and 11), in the quick part the quarter note is at 144. Based on the same model, you have 6 propositions for listening and working for the 'Freilech' (tracks 12 to 17). Finally, at track 18, you have explanations about the klezmer clarinet effects: the glissando, the bending, the long and short tchiaks, silent notes, the growl, fluttertongue (flatt), superposition of the growl and the flatt, superposition of the growl and glissando.
