Henri Wieniawski, the greatest violinist of his time, says farewell to his 'compositional' life with a dreamy and contemplative Rêverie. It seems like a last tone poem in remembrance of his role as a viola player in the brilliant London concerts of the Beethoven Quartet Society alongside his partners Joseph Joachim, Wilhelm Ernst and Alfredo Piatti. Framing an elegiac melody, the two-part recitatives with their rebellious triplets hang in the air like questions whose answer is silence. The work was probably composed before 1875, the year it was first published by Augener in London. We present the piece here in a new print, freed from a few inconsistencies between score and part.
