Torelli was born on April 22, 1658, in Verona. 1684 he became a member of the famous "Accademia Filarmonica" of Bologna, and 1686 he became a "violetta" player in the orchestra of San Petronio. At the same time he studied composition with Giacomo Antonio Perti. After the orchestra's disbandment in 1696 he traveled to Vienna and to Ansbach; in 1701 he returned to Bologna, where he died in 1709. Sonatas, Concertos and Sinfonies were printed during his lifetime.
