This collection of short piano compositions came about in close conjunction with the recording of four ”Solo Piano“ CDs which were released under the title ”A Kind Of Miniatures“ (Parts 1-3) and ”Panta Rhei“. They were not only performed in numerous concert settings but also discovered by the radio, TV and advertising communities. It made me especially happy, however, that these short pieces captured the hearts of many people who played them at the most various of occassions including weddings, births, church services and funerals. The simple structure of modern, romantic compositions is of course suited for piano instruction as there is plenty of space and freedom for interpretation or improvisation. The tempo and dynamic indications as well as the articulation and pedal markings are to be understood as mere suggestions and can be altered as the performer sees fit. In fact, a creative exploration of the music in its present form is desired by the composer. The CDs I already mentioned – performed by the composer himself – were recorded with this type of individual interpretation and serve as an ideal supplement to the notated version. They also provide an audio stimulus for the direction of your own interpretation or simplify the task of preselecting the pieces for your own repertoire. All the pieces in this volume can be found on the CDs by using the respective cross-reference number. The notated music represents the composition in its most basic form. A broad spectrum of performance possibilities and welcome venues exists for the ”Miniatures“: from the expansion of ones own repertoire in solo, chamber and jazz concerts to the piano bar, school concert or in modern piano instruction.
