Geminiani Sonata D-major Opus 1 No.10 Flute [Oboe]-Bc

This transcription for flute of Geminiani's violin sonata in E major op. 1, no. 10 comes from Pietro Chaboud's two-volume collection published by Walsh & Hare in London around 1723. Pietro Chaboud was known in London from his concerts on the 'flûte d'almain' and as a bassoonist in the Queen's Theatre. He also composed flute and oboe music for the first Duke of Chandos. His transcription of Geminiani's sonata keeps closely to the original.

Flutists often envied the capacities and skills of violin players. Hence an adaptation of a violin sonata by Geminiani is hardly surprising. This arrangement was much sought after in London ca 1725.

Deze bewerking voor fluit van Geminiani's vioolsonate in E gr.t., op. 1, no.10 is afkomstig uit een tweedelige collectie die door Pietro Chaboud bij Walsh & Hare in Londen werd uitgegeven in ca 1723. Pietro Chaboud was in London bekend door zijn concerten op de 'flûte d'almain' en als fagottist in het 'Queen's Theatre'. Ook werkte hij als componist van fluit- en hobomuziek voor de eerste hertog van Chandos. Hij bewerkte Geminiani's sonate met bijzondere trouw aan het origineel.

Fluitisten waren vaak jaloers op wat violisten zoal konden. Een bewerking van een vioolsonate van de beroemde violist Geminiani is dus niet verwonderlijk. Dit arrangement was in Londen ca. 1725 zeer geliefd.
