The Sonata in F minor for bassoon was first published by Georg Philipp Telemann in Hamburg in 1728, when it appeared in Der getreue Music-Meister, a journal which offered a variety of vocal and instrumental pieces to subscribers. The present edition is based on an exemplar of the Sibley Music Library of the Eastman School of Music, Rochester/New York. Telemann's own ornaments are scarce and only given for the first two movements. Necessary additions by the editor are clearly marked in the notation.
