A graduate of the Conservatory of Hilversum, Heleen Verleur (1964) lives in Amsterdam with her husband Jan and her twin daughters Gaia and Rosa. After teaching children how to compose and writing short pieces for them, Heleen turned to writing serious classical work for piano solo, violin/piano, voice/piano, trios, and quintets. She has regular performances with a violinist as well as with a piano trio (violin, cello and piano) and soprano singers. The Tango from Trio number 2 was first performed and aired on Dutch radio in celebration of the wedding of the Dutch prince to his Argentine bride in Spring 2001.

Pianiste/componiste/pianodocente Heleen Verleur (1964) studeerde in 1986 af aan het Hilversums Conservatorium, met als hoofdvak piano klassiek. Zij speelt vanaf haar 14e jaar piano. Tijdens haar studie volgde zij ook jazzimprovisatielessen. Heleen begon met het schrijven van korte muziekstukken voor haar eigen leerlingen. Zij gaf een cursus 'componeren voor kinderen', waarbij ze kinderen zelf muziekstukken hielp bedenken. Daarna schreef zij langere composities voor meerdere bezettingen. Heleen werkt regelmatig samen met sopranen Renée Harp en Susanne van de Vosse, en met violiste Martine Nijenhuis. Zij schreef onder meer:

Haar stukken worden inmiddels op verschillende plaatsen in de wereld uitgevoerd. Op 3 februari 2002 was de premiere van het eerste deel van Trio No.2 ('Tango. ) te horen in het programma 'Spiegelzaal' van de Avro, rechtstreeks uitgezonden vanuit het Concertgebouw te Amsterdam.
My Tango Trio, first composition ever been published (2001), has landed in the US. Daniel Weiser (piano) played it, together with wonderful violin player Emmanuel Borowsky and cello player Frances Borowsky. There is a beautiful recording that was sent to me by Daniel. I think these musicians really understood the little jokes in the piece.
Before performance the 2nd movement, Dan mailed me to ask: “What is this little theme that is used there, it sounds so familiar!” I almost forgot about that, but is was a famous Scottish melody (he tells about it in the Introduction below).
