Productomschrijving

Charles-Marie Widor (1844-1937) is mainly associated with "his" instrument: the organ. Already at the age of 25 he succeeded Lefébure-Wely on the great Cavaillé-organ in the church of Saint-Sulpice in Paris. 1890 he was declared successor of Cesar Franck as an organ teacher at the conservatory. He combined the French, pianistically oriented organ technique with the German pedal-technique and thus founded the French organ school that endures up to the present. In 1896 he transferred to the composition-class, presumably due to the higher prestige the position held. Numerous distinguished composers studied with him among others N. Boulanger, M. Dupré, A. Honegger, E. Varèse and L. Vierne. However, neither as a teacher nor as a composer was his influence style-forming. This also applies to the here published Trois Pièces that still within the year of their creation (1909) were published by Hamelle in Paris. While quite conventional in the tonal language, they are - due to their moderate difficulty - a welcome enrichment to the - in this respect extremely small - repertoire of original, romantic music.
