Johann Joachim Quantz is considered one of the most significant flute virtuosos of his time, but he also made a great name for himself as the teacher of the flute-playing king of Prussia, Friedrich II, and as the author of the seminal theoretical publication Versuch einer Anweisung die Flöte traversiere zu spielen (On Playing the Flute, 1752) , a work that still bears significance for musicological research today. Furthermore, he created a vast oeuvre of compositions above all for his own instrument. His style is blends Italian ornamentation, French rhythm and the 'worked style' of the German counterpoint. The work presented here for the first time serves as a beautiful example of this.
