There are three manuscript sources for the sonata edited here, all of which belong to the Hessian State and University Library in Darmstadt, two scores and a copy of the parts. One of the scores (Sonata di J. F. Fasch, Mus ms 297-4) is an autograph from ca. 1740, whereas the other sources were copied shortly thereafter or around 1750 by the concertmaster Johann Samuel Endler (1694–1762).
Only the set of parts (Mus ms 298-2) has a title page, which was written by Christoph Graupner:
Nro 129. | Sonata | a | Flut: Trav. | Violino | Bassone | e | Cembalo | Fasch. Neither here nor in the two scores (Mus ms 297-2 und 297-4), in which the instruments are similarly labeled, is the bass figured.
The realisation of this part may serve as an inspiration for an accompaniment using dynamics and accents.
