Productomschrijving

Joseph Miroslav Weber was born in Prague on November 9, 1854, learning violin with his father Johann Weber (1824-1880) and playing before the Emperor of Austria when he was ten years old. He studied
piano with Eduard Horn and composition with Adolf Procha before entering the Prague Conservatory in 1870, where his teachers were organist Joseph Krejcí and violinists Ferdinand Laub and Antonín
Bennewitz. He also studied organ with Frantiaek Blazk at the Prague Organ School.

On leaving the Conservatory in 1873 he began his professional career as a solo violinist at the Hofkapelle in Sondershausen, moving on to be Concertmeister at Darmstadt in 1875. In 1883 he succeeded Josef Rebicek as assistant Kapellmeister in Wiesbaden, being promoted to first Kapellmeister in 1889. He joined the Munich Court Orchestra in 1894, and in 1901 became the leader.

In Darmstadt and Munich he also led string quartets. He was much acclaimed as a pianist as well as a violinist and as a composer of chamber music and comic operas. His chamber music won prizes,
among them the second quartet in St Petersburg in 1891, and the first prize of the Prague Kammermusikgesellschaft (chamber music society) in 1898 for his quintet in D for two violins, viola and two cellos.

There is also an attractive wind quintet of 1899, published for the first time by Rosewood in 2006. The septet "From my Life" (Aus meinem Leben) was awarded a prize in 1896 by the Tonkünstlerverein in Vienna. It is considered to be a kind of personal statement of his life and love of his homeland.

To facilitate the readability of the horn parts, they are written in F throughout now.
Weber died on a stroke in Munich on January 1, 1906.
