The French composer Georges Bizet is known today primarily for his opera "Carmen". His two L'Arlésienne-Suites of four movements are famous as well and are part of the orchestral repertoire. Bizet arranged them out of his music for the drama by Daudet "L'Arlésienne". The third movement of the second suite contains one of the most famous and most beautiful solos for flute in orchestral literature: mostly accompanied by a solitary harp the solo flute dwells upon enchanting cantilenas. To colour the arrangement a bit and to approach the original orchestral version it is advisable to alternate between tutti and soli. The passages are marked accordingly.
