We are pleased to present Spanish virtuoso transcriptions for solo viola by Marco Misciagna.
Born in Bari (Italy), Marco Misciagna finished his musical studies at the early age of 15 and thereafter attended the Accademia Chigiana of Siena where he studied under Yuri Bashmet and Boris Belkin, obtaining various prizes of distinction.

Marco Misciagna has performed in many of the major concert halls throughout the world during his extensive career as soloist and chamber musician. Next to his solo and chamber music career, Misciagna has taught masterclasses at the conservatories of Madrid, Dublin, Istanbul and Ankara, among others, and has held teaching positions in Paris and Namur (Belgium), teaching both violin and viola. Having played as principle violist in the Malaga Chamber Orchestra, Misciagna is currently professor of viola at the Superior State Conservatory of Potenza (Italy), honorary professor at Rachmaninov Music Conservatory in Tambov (Russia) and at the Far Eastern State Academy of Arts in Vladivostok (Russia).


During his years as the principal violist in Malaga, Misciagna became acquainted with the repertoire of various Spanish composers. It was his appreciation of this wonderful music, as well as a notable dearth of virtuosic solo works in the viola repertoire, that inspired him to transcribe
a collection of Spanish guitar and piano works for the viola.

Some bowings and fingerings have been added as suggestions, where they assist with the musical/technical understanding of the transcriptions.
