Clari's Day Out was composed in 2010, with the South Wales Clarinet Choir in mind. The SWCC gave the UK première performance in 2012 in Cardiff, with the world première performance a day earlier in New York, by the Silverwood Clarinet Choir. This work originates from a song composed in 2003 called The Train from Waterloo, inspired by a journey from London to Devon. The song encapsulated joy and excitement at the prospect of leaving the busy and hectic city, journeying through the British countryside towards the West-country seaside. Minimum instrumentation required: 1 x clarinet in Eb 2 x 1st clarinet in Bb 2 x 2nd clarinet in Bb 2 x 3rd clarinet in Bb 2 x 4th clarinet in Bb 2 x alto clarinet in Eb (or 5th clarinet in Bb) 2 x bass clarinet in Bb 1 x contra alto clarinet in Eb 1 x contrabass clarinet in Bb
