In August 2001 Schwaen arranged the Variations on a Scottish Folk Song for violin and harp. In contrast to Beethoven's original, in Schwaen's version the melody line often alternates between the harp and the violin. The omission of the actual melody in the second varia-tion is typical for Schwaen's humour. Possibly he had in mind that once Beethoven had been asked by his publisher for a particularly simple melody part which could be omitted if necessary. The revision and some adjustments for playability were undertaken by the acknowledged solo harpist Katharina Hanstedt.
