Product description

Lucian Moraru, a violist and composer from Romania, is also the CEO of SonArt records, a Romanian recording company which features local artists as well as publishing instrumental music from a wide range of composers. Borșa is a town in northern Romania, and the work is highly influenced by folk music from the region.

In one continuous movement, it commences with a slow introduction accompanied by tremolo on the piano. Following is a lively rhythmical melody in G major in 6/8 time with a few changes to 15/8. Some sections include three string chords and a few glissandi for effect. The accompaniment is mainly chordal and repetitive. The fast section requires mastery of tenor and treble clef and dexterity to play fast ornamentation. Easy to read, the score has bar numbers and includes bowings and fingerings. It would be suited to an intermediate cello student who requires consolidation in playing in thumb position. At around 5’, Borșa would be suitable as an encore piece.
