Christian Ludwig Dietter was born 13th June 1757 in Ludwigsburg, Württemberg. From 1770 he learnt at the "Militärisches Waisen-
haus" (military orphanage) or rather the later "Hohe Karlsschule" violin, viola and bassoon, and also taught himself and had lessons
with A. Boroni and A. Poli in theory and composition. An unsuccessful escape from the strictly institute brought him to prison (1780).
Nevertheless he joined the court orchestra in 1781, where he remained until his retirement. At the time of his death in Stuttgart
15th May 1822 he was a respected composer. His works include Singspiel and opera, as well as church music, symphonies,
concertos and chamber music. He wrote several concertos for bassoon, including two for 2 bassoons.
