Product description

Auguste Blangy , born 13th of March in 1779 in Paris, was pupil of the famous horn player Duvernoy. In 1799 Blangy received the first price at the Conservatoire of Paris. The time between 1810 and 1816 he was employed at the Parisian Opera. In this time he may have composed his works for the opera. In 1818 to 1820 he was Répétiteur at the Conservatoire. Beside his education in horn playing he must have received many lectures in composition. He was also one of the founders of the Société des Concerts du Conservatoire in 1828. There he played the second horn together with the first horn players Dauprat, Mengal and Meiferd.

It can be assumed that his change to the viola in 1831 was because of health conditions. He finished his employment on the first December in 1843 and died 10th October 1848.

Airs d`Aladin / ou la Lampe Merveilleuse / Musique de / Nicolo et Benincori / ARRANGÉS POUR DEUX CORS / dot plusiers à Tons différens, / dédiés à / Mr. Alfred de Neuville / par A. Blangy / de l`Académie Royale de Musique

This is the title of the submitted Duos for 2 Horns. Blangy processed some pieces from the opera "Alaeddin and the Enchanted Lamp" of a composer called Nicolo. Under the name Nicolo is hidden Nicolas Isouard (1775 -1818), who was a very successful Paris opera composer of the time. This composer, however, died before completion of the work and Angelo Maria Benincori (1779 - 1821) completed the composition. Benincori died before the first performance in 1822 at the opera in Paris. The conductor François-Antoine Habeneck (1781-1849) completed the work.

These suites are interesting also because of the different usage of tunes for the different horn parts and that both horns play the higher or lower part in the duos.
