The source of this edition are the Duos 'Op. 19. 1e Degré. TROIS DUOS TR ╚ S FACIL E S dédiés aux Commençans.' taken from Offenbach's 'École du Violoncelle / Degré 1-4 (1st to 4th level) / pour / deux Violoncelles' and published as an undated set of parts in 'Berlin chez Ad. Mt. Schlesinger' (plate no. S. 3543). They are an ideal introduction to ensemble playing, with both voices alternately leading and accompanying. Offenbach composed several collections of duos prior to his theatre career. Thanks to their didactic progression from 'Très Faciles dédiés aux Commençans' to the 'Grands Duos concertants' intended for concert use, they are still popular today.
